Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team did not mention the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
