The one-time leader was convicted of orchestrating a military coup in the ninth month and sentenced more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a precautionary step after "new facts" came to light.
